Manchester United are tipped to launch an astronomical offer in the hopes of signing Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez.
The 25-year-old rose to stardom in recent years both for his elemental part in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph and his exploits at Manchester City. But despite scoring 36 goals and providing 17 assists in his 103 appearances for the Premier League champions, Pep Guardiola sanctioned his departure last summer, accepting an offer from Atletico Madrid worth £75 million.
The Argentine swiftly made himself at home after joining Diego Simeone’s court. He struck an immediate understanding with his attacking partner Antoin Griezmann, and has thus far scored 17 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions with the Colchoneros.
But according to Fichajes.net, the striker’s time in the Spanish capital side could be brief, as Atletico could be tempted to offload him if they were to receive lucrative bids. The Spanish source identifies Man Utd as the one club that is keen to land the Argentina international.

The report believes the Red Devils have pinpointed the former Man City star as the ideal profile to lead their attack for years to come. Ruben Amorim’s frontline has been crying out for a top-notch striker, as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s scoring stats remain off the mark.
Therefore, the source claims Man Utd are willing to shell out a whopping €150 million to bring Alvarez back to Manchester.
However, this report should be taken with a pinch of salt, as United would only be able to splash seizable amounts of cash after selling some of their own players to raise funds, as Amorim explained in his press conference on Friday.
Furthermore, with several departments in dire need of reinforcement, one would expect the club directors to split the transfer kit on several profiles rather than fork out a record-breaking sum on one player.
