In recent days, Manchester United have been repeatedly linked with a move to strengthen their goalkeeping department.

Neither Andre Onana nor Altay Bayindir were convincing last season, and it is easy to understand why Ruben Amorim would be calling for an upgrade.

With Onana injured and Bayindir’s future uncertain, a goalkeeper signing is something fans can realistically anticipate.

Several top-performing keepers have been mentioned, but recently, the spotlight has shifted firmly onto Senne Lammens.

Man United step up interest in Lammens

On Friday, reports claimed United were keen to formalise their approach for the Royal Antwerp shot-stopper.

Shortly after, reports emerged of Lammens’ appreciation of the United links and his desire to seal a move to the Premier League.

If that did not stir enough excitement, Het Laatste Nieuws now reports that United’s interest is widely known, and that INEOS have placed the 23-year-old on their transfer wishlist.

They go on to claim that at Antwerp, they expect an official bid from United soon, with offers in the region of €15 to €20 million (£12.9 to 17.3 million) expected to be sufficient.

Galatasaray snubbed

While several clubs view Antwerp’s openness to a sale as a transfer opportunity, Lammens is selective about his next move as one Turkish giant has found out.

“Turkish giants Galatasaray are also keen on Lammens, though the player prefers a move to one of Europe’s top leagues,” HLN says.

INEOS must move swiftly

The onus is now on United to accelerate their pursuit.

Lammens has already hinted he is excited by the links, and some of his numbers last season suggest he is a serious prospect.

With a save rate of 78%, 10 clean sheets in 44 matches, and a FootyStats rating of 7.49, Lammens looks like a brilliant piece of business.

He could be one of the shrewd signings that could help restore stability between the sticks at the Theatre of Dreams.

Not only could he push Onana to raise his level, but he may well stake a claim as a key figure in Amorim’s project. Featured image Octavio Passos via Getty Images
