SC Cambuur have said goodbye to 21-year-old defender Gabi Caschili. While the club intended to keep him in Leeuwarden longer, an interview with the Leeuwarder Courant confirmed that a contract extension was off the table after Caschili was involved in a fight.

Back in June, WKE’16 and Surhústerfean were facing each other in a promotion match in amateur football. Caschili was present as a WKE fan. In a brawl that broke out after the match, Caschili played a role by holding a man down and throwing punches himself. Unfortunately for the player, this was recorded by cameras from RTV Drenthe.

“We cannot deny that an incident occurred after the match,” said Cambuur’s technical manager Lars Lambooij.

He also confirmed that the club won’t continue with the Emmen-born right-back. Caschili has played in Leeuwarden since 2023, yet only made two appearances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie last season. Caschili has not been present at the club in recent weeks and has not played in Cambuur’s practice matches either.
