Sandro Tonali has made it clear he wants to stay at Newcastle United. The Telegraph reports that he is determined to repay the faith the club showed him during the toughest period of his career.
Last year, Tonali was banned for 10 months after breaching betting rules.
There were several options on the table, but many expected Newcastle to cut him loose. They resisted the urge and stood by him.
Since returning to the fray, Tonali has been a man reborn. He has contributed – and continues to – to Newcastle’s exceptional 2024/25 campaign thus far.
He was a key part of Eddie Howe’s team that ended the club’s 70-year wait for a trophy by beating Liverpool in the EFL Cup final.
His three goals and two assists might be modest for a midfielder who has played 32 times in the Premier League.
However, he’s an indispensable part of Howe’s midfield, and they are on the cusp of returning to the Champions League.
Tonali wants to repay that faith. He wants to give back to the manager, the fans, and the club for their unwavering support.
This comes amid increasing interest from Juventus. The Old Lady made him their priority target ahead of the summer transfer window.
It was always going to be a long shot for the Italian powerhouse, considering Newcastle’s valuation.
But they were keen to make it happen. There are even reports that Manchester City and Real Madrid also have an eye on Tonali.
But the midfielder now looks more likely to remain at St. James’ Park, where he has a contract until 2028.
Tonali had a slow start to life in England, and the lengthy lay-off didn’t help.
However, he has hit his stride and lived up to the £55 million the Magpies spent to bring him in from AC Milan.
The player is now keen to help establish Newcastle as one of the top guns in England, and the club are also planning to build around him.
