Striker nearly joined the Blues from Atletico Madrid this summer

Samu Omorodion has opened up on his failed Chelsea transfer after a blistering start to life at Porto.

The Blues had agreed a £35million deal to sign Omorodion from Atletico Madrid in the summer, but the move ultimately fell through.

Omorodion ended up joining Porto and has hit the ground running at the Portuguese giants scoring seven goals in his first seven games including two in the 3-3 draw with Manchester United in the Europa League.

And the 20-year-old insists he has no regrets about not joining Chelsea despite enduring a difficult summer.

“The gold medal [with Spain U23 at the Olympics] wasn't so bitter,” Omorodion told Spanish news agency EFE.

“But it was a very difficult summer. When I was in Madrid I had a very bad time. In the end, thank God, everything turned out well. If the Chelsea deal didn't work out it was for a reason and in the end everything turned out well.

“There - at Atletico Madrid - I trained separately. I didn't feel involved, not like a footballer. I trained and my head told me no. I had a bad time. I cried a lot at night... my family and my mother had a very bad time... In the end, thank God, everything came together quickly and I made the best decision.

“I'm also very grateful to Porto for giving me the opportunity when things looked at their worst, and I'm very happy with where I am now,” he added to Spanish outlet RTVE.

“I've left the past behind and now I'm focused on what's coming to me.”
