Russell Martin Must Deliver On His Rangers Rage Rant | OneFootball

No question Russell Martin is already under colossal pressure as Rangers manager. ‘He’s only in the door ffs’ but results have been poor. Just one win in three, as the club starts the league fourth bottom.

It’s not a good look for Rangers and the last time we were there so early was the ill-fated Beale regime.

Prior to him it hadn’t happened since 1989, when Rangers were in fact bottom of the table having lost to St Mirren.

So Russell Martin is writing himself into all of Rangers’ unwanted record books. He has a win record well below all Rangers managers aside interim Barry. He delivered a big rant after Motherwell and now he must make good on it.

And as it goes he must now face Victoria Plzen in the Champions League third round qualifiers. He knows anything other than a win at Ibrox against a side not regarded as Real Madrid by any means could be curtains for Curtains. Ok it’s maybe not quite at that point, albeit Ibrox Noise was not in favour of this appointment in the first place. But one win in four competitive fixtures would be a tragically abysmal start.

Make no mistake – this manager is under the worst pressure of any new Rangers boss probably ever. No appointment was ever this unpopular and little he’s done has endeared himself to fans.

If he gets the win against Plzen he will buy himself a little slack, but boy does he need to deliver on that WhatsApp rumour and make major changes to both the XI and his own philosophies.

He won’t, of course – he’s too arrogant and stubborn to change – it got him fired at Southampton.

So why would it change at Ibrox?

Can Martin surprise us by at least changing that XI like the rumour claims, maybe?

We will see what the revealed team looks like. Unfortunately Martin strikes us as yet another arrogant Rangers boss who knew better and stuck to his guns.

Only Walter was good enough to do that. Walter Smith Russell Martin is not.
