You can expect to hear some fresh January transfer rumours spark up now after some latest comments by Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.
He saw his side get beaten at home by Fulham 2-1 in the Premier League on Boxing Day yesterday in what was a bit of a reality check for The Blues.
Maresca has repeatedly said his side are not in a title race, and perhaps this is just another performance that reiterates those comments.
Cole Palmer put Chelsea ahead in the game, but they lost control of it in the second half, as Palmer admits, and then Fulham scored two quick goals to smash and grab all three points in what was a huge win for them. It also showed Chelsea are not there yet, which is what I have been consistently saying.
There was a surprise omission from the squad too. Noni Madueke had become a regular this season and an important player under Maresca, but all of a sudden he was axed from the squad entirely and it was not down to injury or illness.
Madueke has clearly annoyed Maresca again
It was reported after the game that Madueke’s omission was a technical decision made by the manager rather than an injury.
And of course, we often know what these things truly mean. It could be an attitude issue or that Madueke is perhaps not training well. But it would not be a tactical decision because this is a player who has been starting most league games under Maresca so far this season and would have absolutely been in the squad at the very least, if something had not have happened here.
This will surely now fuel some rumours of a potential January exit out of the club for Madueke, if he has done something to upset the boss.
