Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has issued clarification around rumours of one of the game’s most-notable midfielders being at Manchester City’s training ground today.

The Premier League champions are believed to be in the market for a new central midfielder in 2025 following struggles in the position so far this season, while there is a possibility that more than one central player arrives at the club across the next two transfer windows.

Among the names to be admired by Manchester City are Newcastle United and Brazil’s Bruno Guimaraes and Real Sociedad and Spain’s Martin Zubimendi, while both stars are likely to command significant transfer fees in either January or next summer.

There is a belief in some quarters that Guimaraes is interested in the possibility of working under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, whilst Zubimendi has been said to be becoming more open to the idea of leaving Spain having rejected Liverpool last summer.

But a far more left-field name has emerged in recent days with some claiming that City would hold some interest in recruiting Paul Pogba on a free transfer after being released by Serie A giants Juventus.

It was confirmed in mid-November that the Frenchman would become a free agent after terminating his contract with Juventus in a mutual agreement, as such being able to join a new club with immediate effect, training from January 2025, and playing from the following March.

A sensational claim on well-known Manchester City fan forum ‘BlueMoon’ had claimed on Thursday that Paul Pogba had been at the club’s City Football Academy training facility this week with his representatives.

However, such a suggestion has since been clarified as fake news by transfer market insider and expert Fabrizio Romano, who stated on his X channel, “Reports of Paul Pogba being at Manchester City training ground today are not true.”

Manchester City are expected to intensify their transfer plans in the coming days and weeks as they look to get their campaign back on track from the very off when Premier League football kicks-off for the first time in 2025.

Who is the Premier League champions’ priority remains to be seen, however insights into the clubs operations and plans are expected to begin filtering into mainstream media across the coming weeks.
