Juventus and Roma pondered a trade between Weston McKennie and Bryan Cristante, but it doesn’t have legs, at least for the time being. The impetus came from the Bianconeri, which have yet another tricky contractual situation on their hands.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb), the talks to renew the deal of the USMNT staple, which expires next June, are stalling. The brass has encountered some difficulties especially concerning the commissions to his entourage.
Juventus will seek a solution for McKennie on the market to avoid a Bosman departure, and the idea of a swap with Roma involving Cristante came to be. On the other hand, despite his status, the former isn’t in a rush to leave Turin. Even if the negotiation kept lagging, he’d be keen on playing out the final year of his contract and deciding his future next summer.
Conversely, the proposed operation with Giallorossi was still in its infancy. The capital club likes the Old Lady outcast, but they would have rather involved other players. For instance, Lorenzo Pellegrini, who is in the same condition and might be a poor fit in Gian Piero Gasperini’s scheme. He’s currently out of commission due to injury.
The former is expected to leave pretty much every summer since he has penned a few short-term renewals in a row, but he always ends up staying and re-upping. We’ll see whether that’ll be the case again under a different management. Losing him for nothing would be a poor look, as while he’s not superb, he’s always quite useful. At worst, he should serve as bait for more interesting targets.
