Former Bayern and Inter striker and ex-CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes that Vincent Kompany’s side need a ‘minor miracle’ to overturn their 2-1 deficit against Inter in the Champions League quarter-final, and has pointed to what he thinks was a fatal error during the first leg last week.
Inter currently have a 2-1 lead over the Bavarians thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Davide Frattesi at the Allianz Arena last week. The Nerazzurri will host in San Siro for the return fixture on Wednesday night.
Rummenigge, who represented both teams over the 1970s and 80s, feels that Simone Inzaghi and his team have already proved themselves as tough opponents to overcome. He believes the Nerazzurri are favourites, and has explained why Bayern made a ‘mistake’ towards the end of the first leg.

“In my opinion, Bayern will need a minor miracle after the result of the first leg in Munich because Inter showed themselves as a great team against us, really,” Rummenigge said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, published on Tuesday.
“It will be a difficult match for Bayern, but not impossible. But for me, Inter will be the favourites to go through.”
Rummenigge believes that Bayern made a mistake in trying to win the game after Thomas Müller’s 85th-minute equaliser during the first leg. He feels that Bayern should have been happy with a draw at that stage in the game, and feels that Frattesi’s late winner came as a result of Bayern pushing on too much.

“We lost the first leg a bit unnecessarily,” he explained. “Because after Müller’s goal, it would have been smarter to go and be happy with the draw. Instead, we pushed on because we wanted to win at all costs and ended up conceding a goal that cost us massively.”
