Ruben Amorim is tempted to select both Mason Mount and Amad Diallo for Manchester United’s crucial trip to face Manchester City.
Both teams enter the match far from their flowing bests with City having won once in ten matches and United having lost their last two Premier League matches.
The match is of vital importance to both for various reasons and United will be aiming to take advantage of the most vulnerable City side they have faced in probably a decade.
Amorim so far has employed a philosophy of heavy rotation of his players as he is assessing who is up to the task and who isn’t when it comes to carrying out his instructions.
In spite of a crucial 2-1 win away to Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday, the Portuguese coach is unlikely to be too impressed with what he saw from most of his players.
However, according to GIVEMESPORT, he continues to like what he sees in Mason Mount.
“Sources have suggested to GIVEMESPORT that Mason Mount continues to impress the boss and that the £55m star is going to be in contention for a start at the Etihad Stadium this weekend,” the outlet claims.
“Mason Mount completed 10 passes and registered two shots on target after coming on as a substitute in Manchester United’s win at Viktoria Plzen on Thursday.”
While the Englishman has yet to convince many supporters of his value to the team, his new boss has always been glowing in his praise of the former Chelsea man.
In a press conference in November, Amorim claimed that he “loved” the type of player Mount is and seemed to suggest he would have a big role to play in his team.
“It is also considered likely that Amad Diallo will return to the right flank, mainly for balance. Amorim likes him centrally but loses his ability on the right side if he is not there.”
Amad took up a more offensive role in midweek as one of the number 10s behind the striker, but the Ivorian is one of the few players who has truly excelled so far in Amorim’s new formation.
A victory over City at the Etihad would do wonders for United’s confidence entering a tough Christmas run of fixtures and Amorim will need to get his team selection spot on if his side are to get anything at their neighbour’s patch, looking for their first win there since 2021.
