Ronald Koeman brands elements of Netherlands performance against Austria a ‘disgrace’ | OneFootball

In the post match press conference following the sides 3-2 defeat at Euro 2024 to Austria, Ronald Koeman was asked about the performance of his side. The former Barcelona man said that he felt that the beginning of the game was really poor from the Netherlands As reported by VI, Koeman said ‘Not the whole match, but the beginning. If you are not in a good position defensively, you do not cover, you are not short, you are not aggressive, you hand the ball to the opponent, then it is a disgrace, yes’.

The defeat to Austria means that the side finish in third place in the group, with their opponents coming in first place. A win for the Netherlands could have seen them win the group ahead of France who could only draw with Poland. Instead, the Dutch are facing the prospect of a much more difficult tie against a group winner, with England a potential opponent. However, after England’s tepid performances so far the Dutch may well fancy their chances.

Going into the tournament, this group always looked to be one of the more difficult ones. Koeman will be under pressure to turn things around regardless of who Oranje face in the next round.
