Liverpool’s Summer Surge Continues as Wirtz Deal Agreed and Kerkez Talks Advance

Wirtz Win Highlights New Transfer Intent

Liverpool are once again making major waves in the summer transfer market, with the Premier League champions wasting little time in reinforcing their squad. Fabrizio Romano, speaking via his YouTube channel, confirmed that the Reds have agreed to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s €150 million valuation for German star Florian Wirtz — a landmark fee which underlines the club’s ambition under new boss Arne Slot.

“Liverpool have agreed to meet Leverkusen’s top-end €150m / £127m valuation, with a chunk of the package made up through add-ons.” It is a price that reflects both desperation and determination, with three previous bids turned down by the Bundesliga side. But on the fourth attempt, Liverpool struck gold, albeit with significant financial compromise.

While the transfer window remains shut until June 16, Wirtz cannot yet be registered. Still, the agreement signifies Liverpool’s clear strategic vision, continuing the aggressive recruitment campaign that saw Jeremie Frimpong signed early as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s successor.

Kerkez Move Gathering Pace Behind the Scenes

With personal terms already agreed, Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez appears poised to become Liverpool’s third major signing of the summer. As Romano explains, “Liverpool are prepared to close the deal for Milos Kerkez… the deal with the player [on personal terms] is done, Kerkez wants to go to Liverpool.”

The Reds are planning one final round of talks with Bournemouth, expected to result in a £40 million to £45 million package. Encouragingly, the Cherries have already secured a replacement in Adrien Truffert from Rennes — a signal that the path has been cleared for Kerkez’s Anfield arrival.

“Truffert going to Bournemouth… when you prepare the way for your replacement it means the deal [for Kerkez] is getting closer.”

With that logic and Liverpool’s urgency, it’s hard to see this transfer dragging on much longer.

Smart Structuring Offers Financial Breathing Room

A recurring feature of Liverpool’s recent transfer approach is the heavy use of add-ons. Romano makes clear that in both the Wirtz and likely Kerkez deals, significant elements of the financial packages are contingent on performance-related clauses. This allows the club to compete for elite players without committing vast sums upfront, protecting the structure of future budgets.

“Precisely how much of the package is add-ons and how easy they are to achieve should become clear over the coming hours and days.”

Such careful fiscal manoeuvring reflects Liverpool’s broader post-Klopp era reset, one that balances ambition with financial caution.

June 16 Looms as Liverpool’s Real Transfer Kick-Off

Though agreements can be finalised in the current interim period, no new arrivals can be officially registered until the window reopens. As such, Liverpool fans may have to wait until June 16 for the ‘here we go’ moment to become a completed reality.

Romano reiterates, “So Kerkez will go to Liverpool, that’s my expectation, but we need to wait a bit for the ‘here we go’, not that long.”

It’s a short wait, but for Liverpool fans already buzzing with anticipation, it could feel like a summer stretched into slow motion.

Excited Liverpool Fan Reaction

As a Liverpool supporter, this is exactly the kind of transfer market energy we’ve been craving since the Klopp era ended. To go out and aggressively target players like Wirtz and Kerkez shows we mean business under Arne Slot. Breaking the £127 million barrier for Wirtz is no small feat, but let’s be honest, he’s a generational talent. It’s about time we started backing the manager like this.

Kerkez, meanwhile, is no slouch. Young, tenacious and already experienced in the Premier League, he feels like the perfect successor to Robertson. If Bournemouth are willing to let him go, especially after wrapping up Truffert, then we’re not just closing deals, we’re planning smartly.

The add-ons approach also makes a lot of sense. It keeps us competitive without wrecking the wage structure or the long-term sustainability. Let’s just hope there are no late snags with Bournemouth.

June 16 can’t come soon enough. Get the shirts printed. We’re building something again.
