Manchester United are on the cusp of finalising their first summer signing.

Indeed, the Red Devils have made advancements in their pursuit of first-choice No.10 target Matheus Cunha – so much so that Fabrizio Romano has confirmed he’ll be giving it the ‘here we go’ treatment imminently.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers talisman has ‘accepted the project’ proposed to him by club chiefs and agreed personal terms. United view him as a ‘perfect’ addition to the squad, hence wanting to get the deal over the line as swiftly as possible.

Cunha will cost INEOS chiefs £62.5 million due to a release clause added to his contract by Wolves in February. He penned a four-and-a-half-year deal at the time, though presumably only did so to ensure he could navigate a seamless summer exit when the window opened.

He is poised to become Amorim’s first-ever summer acquisition, following winter arrivals Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu as the boss’ first chosen players to suit his system.

Why Amorim has had his sights set on Cunha

The 13-capped Brazil international, 25, has enjoyed a career-best goalscoring campaign in 2024/2025, notching 15 goals and six assists in 31 Premier League appearances and a further two goals in two FA Cup outings.

His stellar efforts have proven integral to Wolves retaining their top-flight status after a turbulent start to the season, so you can understand why they want to ensure they make their money’s worth from his departure.

Cunha has previously represented RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin and Atlético Madrid. Impressively, his most eye-catching performances have come in England, which can’t be said for a lot of players making the move over here.
