Robert Sanchez has opened up on the work he does to prepare for penalties after he kept out Evanilson’s spot kick on Saturday night.

The Blues left the south coast with three points to record their second Premier League win of the season after Christopher Nkunku’s late goal, which was set up by the impressive Jadon Sancho.

However, Chelsea are certainly indebted to Sanchez for leaving with the win after the Spaniard put in a brilliant performance between the sticks and made some great saves alongside keeping out Bournemouth’s first half penalty.

Sanchez reveals how he kept put Evanilson’s penalty

The former Brighton man has come under a lot of criticism during his time at the club and many fans have called for him to be replaced as the club’s first choice keeper.

Despite being outperformed by Djordje Petrovic last season and the arrival of Filip Jorgensen this summer, Sanchez has started the season as Enzo Maresca’s number one.

The win against Bournemouth was arguably his best in a Chelsea shirt and continues his good start to the campaign.

Speaking after the game Sanchez detailed his penalty strategy and how he knew which way Evanilson was going to go.

Sanchez brilliantly saved Evanilson’s first half penalty.

“I’m happy,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“We always study the opponents. I’ve been looking at him. I can see he changes when the keeper dives early. So I held, and I knew if I stayed where I was he was going to put it there, so it was a good decision and a good save.

“It’s the closest thing you can get to scoring a goal as a keeper.

“You make a penalty save, a few good saves in the game, a lot of actions, and keep a clean sheet, so I’m over the moon.”

Next up for Sanchez and his team-mates is a trip to West Ham next Saturday as the Blues look to win back to back games in the league for the first time this season.
