Graham Potter believes his West Ham team didn't control the final moments of the game well and were bound to concede the late equaliser from Southampton.
Tell me, honestly, were you too convinced of another disappointing matchday when the extra time counter began at the London Stadium? If we are being true to ourselves, we can't help but all accept this.
After all, few would've hoped that, unlike the depleting odds in Southampton's favour, a mesmerizing volley from Ugochukwu would flip it all on its head.
Still, it came, producing the biggest Southampton redemption this year while surprising every supporter among the St. Mary's faithful.
And why not? A 93rd-minute equalizer from a first-time scorer, that too from an acrobatic effort, yet somehow went unseen by boss Rusk, yesterday's fixture ended with a ton of madness on the road for Southampton.
But as if this wave of surprises wasn’t enough for the Saints fans, there's this one for them directly from the opposition camp.
Well, given Southampton's last-moment botches this season, few would've seen that Ugochukwu equalizer coming, but in a shocking turn of events, it is revealed that opposition boss Graham Potter was hardly fazed for dropping the points.
Post-match, the ex-Rusk colleague admitted the Hammers' careless attitude in the end, after which the leveller was hardly surprising for him.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Potter expressed their helplessness, saying: “I can’t say we deserved much more, which is a reflection on how disappointed we are. Credit to Southampton, but we didn’t do enough to win and in the end, we have to look at the reasons why.”
Well, it's not the first time, Southampton has earned a compliment from their opponents, but something's special this time. After all, finally, the fans get to end the matchday on a positive note post a string of second-half collapses.
Just imagine, the Saints are one step away from crossing Derby's count. Let's do it in the next game.
