A report in the Italian media explains how much keeping Joaquin Correa would cost Inter Milan next season.

The Nerazzurri signed the 29-year-old from Lazio in the summer of 2021 for 32.5 million euros. He signed a four-year deal at the time.

However, the Argentine couldn’t carry his impressive form with him from the Stadio Olimpico to San Siro.

So after two underwhelming campaigns, Inter tried to offload Correa last summer. They sent him on loan to Olympique Marseille who have the option to buy, him which would become an obligation in case of a Champions League qualification.

Nevertheless, these hopes were dealt with a deadly blow last night when Atalanta eliminated OM from the Europa League semi-final.

Hence, the Ligue 1 side won’t have the obligation to keep Correa on a permanent basis. Moreover, they surely won’t decide to deliberately buy him following his disappointing campaign in France.

Therefore, Correa will return to Appiano Gentile in July.

According to Calcio e Finanza, the Argentina international would weigh almost 15 million euros on the club’s balance sheet if he stays at Inter for the 2024/25 campaign.

Keeping Joaquin Correa Would Cost Inter Milan €15M

As the source explains, the remaining cost of the player’s amortization is circa 8.5 million euros.

Moreover, Correa’s gross wages are around 6.5 million (including 3.5M net salary).

So between his amortization cost and gross salary, the sum reaches 15 million euros.

Therefore, Inter will be hoping to find him a new buyer. However, a sale worth less than the remaining amortization cost would register as a capital loss on the club’s accounts.

On the other hand, if Inter were to send him on loan again, they must first extend his contract which will expire in 2025.

In this case, the yearly amortization cost would decrease, as it is divided based on the number of remaining years on the player’s contract.
