Retegui hails Atalanta’s quality and experience: ‘It shows’ | OneFootball

Mateo Retegui was delighted to end up on the scoresheet again, and hailed his side’s ‘quality and experience’ after Atalanta recorded a thumping 6-1 victory over Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Retegui officially got two goals on the night, as UEFA decided that one of the three originally awarded to Charles De Ketelaere had gone in off the Italy international. Sead Kolasinac and Lazar Samardzic also ended up on the scoresheet.

Retegui hails Atalanta’s quality and experience: ‘It shows’

“I am very happy, as we all played really well, especially in the first half. We came here with the mentality to win, take all three points and now we can rest a little before the next match,” Retegui told Sky Sport Italia after full-time.

“We have a team with so much quality and experience, we are playing beautiful football and it shows. I dedicate this award to the whole team, because we are doing so well both in Serie A and Europe. We must continue keeping our feet on the ground, trying to keep winning and going like this.

“We know it was very important to win today.”

Atalanta are still undefeated in the Champions League, and the goal they conceded on Tuesday night was the first they have let in in Europe all season.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side currently sit in fourth place in the overall standings with three victories and two draws on their record, although their position in the league phase table could still change depending on Wednesday’s results.
