We’ve never been convinced by the rumours about Chelsea interest in Karim Adeyemi, but they keep coming, and we’re starting to believe there must be something in it.
Today it’s CaughtOffside who report on the Blues’ interest, with the site claiming that we’ve “made moves” ahead of the summer where we’re keen on bringing in the Dortmund attacker.
Having looked at him in January, alongside Man U’s Alejandro Garnacho, we decided against signing them but are clearly ready to return before too long:
“Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Adeyemi is likely to be available for around €45m, with Dortmund open to a sale under the right conditions,” they write.
They add that the Blues are “really eager to strengthen” after a “frustrating season” which saw key player Nicolas Jackson start really brightly, then lose his form, then pick up an injury, leaving us strikerless for a month at least.

Adeyemi’s explosive pace means he can play out wide as well as through the middle, and we do see how me potentially makes sense as a backup to Jackson, as well as offering another option out wide. If we had gone through with the January deal, we can well imagine he would be starting games for us now.
Funnily enough, he’s already been linking up with a Chelsea player on the pitch in Germany – Carney Chukwuemeka is on loan there now and the two already look to have a connection.
However, there’s a reason Dortmund are happy to sell and a reason we’re not convinced he’s the player we want. He’s never been deadly in front of goal, and the last thing we need is another inefficient attacker.
