According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are weighing up an ambitious approach to sign Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold in January, advancing plans that originally targeted a free transfer in the summer. Madrid’s motivation for the accelerated timeline is rooted in the injury of Dani Carvajal, leaving Lucas Vazquez to fill the void as a makeshift right-back. The Spanish giants are reportedly not keen to pay over the odds for Alexander-Arnold, who will be free to negotiate next summer, but they remain keen on sealing the deal sooner.

In a bid to entice Liverpool, Los Blancos are considering an intriguing swap offer: Aurelien Tchouameni plus £21 million for the England international. The French midfielder has been a long-time target for Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp previously showing interest in Tchouameni’s skillset, seeing him as a natural fit for the Reds’ midfield dynamics.

However, Defensa Central notes that Real Madrid have drawn a line, refusing to part with star winger Rodrygo in any player-plus-cash deal.

Would this swap meet Liverpool’s valuation? It’s a question that will hover until January, with Madrid hoping that Tchouameni’s appeal at Anfield could bridge the gap in negotiation.
The prospect of losing Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid is bound to raise eyebrows. While Aurelien Tchouameni’s talents are undeniable and his midfield abilities would certainly bolster Liverpool’s squad, letting go of Alexander-Arnold – a local icon and one of the most creative players in the team – in exchange is a tough pill to swallow. Fans may feel that Alexander-Arnold’s influence, particularly his unrivalled delivery and vision from the right flank, would be difficult to replace.
There’s also the question of team dynamics under current manager Arne Slot. Slot has leaned heavily on Alexander-Arnold’s overlapping runs and intricate playmaking abilities from the back. Swapping him for a defensive midfielder, even one as accomplished as Tchouameni, could disrupt Liverpool’s flow, especially with the Reds’ lack of a natural replacement in that right-back role.
Many Liverpool fans might agree that if Madrid are eager to secure Alexander-Arnold mid-season, they’ll need to increase the cash on the table or offer an additional attacking prospect. The Reds faithful will undoubtedly watch this development closely, questioning whether the price truly reflects Alexander-Arnold’s value and legacy at Anfield.
