According to a report from Sky Sports, Liverpool are actively looking to move on from Federico Chiesa, just a year after his arrival. Signed with high expectations, the Italian forward has failed to deliver the impact envisioned under the new regime. A fee of around €15 million is being sought for the 27-year-old, who is now being linked with a return to Serie A.

While Chiesa’s pedigree is undeniable—once hailed as one of Italy’s brightest talents—his career has been hindered by injuries and inconsistency. A move back to his homeland could well be the reset he needs. Regular minutes in a familiar environment might be the best way for Chiesa to rediscover his sharpness and confidence.
As Liverpool prepare to offload Chiesa, attention is quickly shifting to a new wide attacking option: Malick Fofana. The Lyon winger has caught the eye of Liverpool’s chief scout Barry Hunter, who, per Sky Sports, “is a huge admirer of the 20-year-old attacker.”
Valued at £43 million, Fofana has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s most promising young forwards. With 11 goals and six assists last season, his direct style and technical ability could bring much-needed flair and depth to Liverpool’s flanks.
The report underscores Liverpool’s over-reliance on Mohamed Salaha situation that demands urgent attention. Fofana’s speed, versatility, and attacking unpredictability would offer fresh dynamics to the squad, especially in transition and when breaking down low blocks.
At just 20, Fofana represents more than a short-term fix. He fits the club’s evolving strategy of investing in young, high-ceiling talents who can be developed into top-tier stars under Arne Slot’s guidance. Slot, entering his first summer window as manager, will be keen to shape the squad in line with his tactical blueprint. Fofana, with his blend of raw ability and top-level potential, could be central to that vision.
From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this development feels bittersweet. The idea of selling Chiesa after just one season raises questions about scouting diligence and adaptability. However, many fans would argue he never looked comfortable in the system or fully fit, and that €15m represents a chance to cut losses and redirect funds more wisely.
Fofana’s links are particularly intriguing. At 20, with impressive Ligue 1 numbers, he appears to tick several boxes: pace, youth, flair, and a direct style suited to Premier League football. While £43 million might seem steep for a relatively untested player in England, Liverpool fans have seen this model work before—Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota being prime examples.
There’s also a growing sense that under Arne Slot, the club may lean further into dynamic wingers who can press high, attack space, and rotate across the front line. Fofana offers that profile. Supporters will be watching closely to see if this is a Barry Hunter-led masterstroke or just another rumour that fizzles out. Either way, the desire to evolve the frontline is a clear sign Liverpool intend to challenge on all fronts next season—with or without Chiesa.
