It was another commanding weekend for Liverpool in the Premier League title race. Arne Slot’s side tightened their grip at the top with a convincing 3-1 victory over Southampton at Anfield, thanks to goals from Darwin Núñez and a brace from Mohamed Salah.

For 24 hours at least, that win stretched Liverpool’s lead to a formidable 16 points. Arsenal, their closest challengers, had the chance to respond on Sunday at Old Trafford. But instead of making a statement, Mikel Arteta’s side could only scrape a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, a result that all but hands the title to Merseyside.
Despite their dominant position, Liverpool remain meticulous in their preparation. With a crucial clash against Arsenal looming, the club is leaving nothing to chance. Evidence of this came at Old Trafford, where a member of Slot’s backroom staff was spotted scouting the Gunners firsthand.
Goalkeeper coach Fabian Otte was present in the stands, keeping a watchful eye over proceedings. His attendance was confirmed via his own Instagram Stories, a small but telling detail in Liverpool’s methodical approach.
One of the key takeaways from Sunday’s stalemate was the performance of Arsenal’s shot-stopper, David Raya. His positioning for Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick raised eyebrows, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Otte noted the vulnerability.
Otte, who arrived at Anfield last summer as part of Liverpool’s restructuring post-Jürgen Klopp, has been working closely with Alisson Becker and Caoimhín Kelleher. His remit will expand next season when Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili joins the ranks, further strengthening Liverpool’s goalkeeping department.

At one stage, the upcoming showdown at Anfield had the makings of a title decider. But Arsenal’s form has faltered at the worst possible time. Just one point from their last three games has left them looking over their shoulder rather than ahead. Meanwhile, Liverpool continue to march on, maintaining their intensity with a level of focus that suggests they want the job done sooner rather than later.
With every passing week, the dream of another Premier League title for Liverpool edges closer to reality. The only question now is not if, but when the celebrations will begin.
