A playoff between Inter Milan and Napoli for the Serie A title wouldn’t necessarily be played at the San Siro.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the match could take place elsewhere for reasons of “public order.”

There is a very realistic possibility that Inter Milan and Napoli could play a “playoff” for the Serie A title at the end of the season.

A couple of years ago, the Lega Serie A changed the rules regarding a tiebreak for the title.

If two teams are level at the top of the table at the end of the campaign, they would face off in a match to determine the Scudetto-winner.

And at the moment, Inter and Napoli are level on 71 points.

Therefore, it is clearly well within the realm of possibility that the two title rivals would pick up the same number of points before the end of the campaign.

The location of the playoff final could be a decisive factor.

And the Lega Serie A will determine this based on the same factors that were previously tiebreaks for the title.

Therefore, it would first come down to head-to-head record between the two teams at the top.

And Inter and Napoli drew both their league matches this season.

Moreover, both matches were draws by a 1-1 scoreline. Therefore, head-to-head goal difference would not come into play.

Accordingly, it would come down to overall goal difference.

And in that respect, Inter Milan have a vastly superior goal difference to Napoli. Therefore, it would seem almost a foregone conclusion that they will finish the campaign as such.

Accordingly, the San Siro would appear to be the likeliest stadium for a Serie A title playoff in the event that it reaches that point.

Nevertheless, reports the Gazzetta, the authorities could move the match to a neutral venue. This would be for potential reasons of “public order.”
