Aston Villa are eyeing a move for Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic following an impressive loan at Strasbourg according to reports.

Chelsea signed Petrovic in the summer of 2023 from MLS side New England Revolution in a surprise deal worth £14m.

Petrovic had to bide his time before replacing the injured Robert Sanchez and established himself as the number one over the second half of the 2023/2024 campaign.

Petrovic impressed last season, but Chelsea signed another two keepers last summer in Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders.

The decision was taken to go with Robert Sanchez as the club’s number one and Petrovic was sent on loan to sister club Strasbourg.

The 25-year-old has impressed in Ligue 1 and has been one of Strasbourg’s best performers, with Champions League qualification still a possibility for Chelsea’s sister club.

Petrovic has been hailed as world class by Liam Rosenior and he’s expected to return to Chelsea and compete to be the club’s number one next season.

However, Petrovic’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed and Football Insider have reported Aston Villa are eyeing a move for the shot stopper.

The report adds Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus are also interested in the Serbia International who is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2023.

Chelsea are in line to make a significant profit on Petrovic should they decide to sell him, and he’s kept seven clean sheets in his last ten games for Strasbourg.

Petrovic has really developed as a player and fans would have no issue with him returning as the club’s number one next season.
