According to a report from L’Équipe, Rennes have reached an agreement with Marseille to sign Valentin Rongier (30) and Quentin Merlin (23) this summer. Discussions continued late into last night between the two Ligue 1 clubs before an agreement was reached this morning.
In order to secure the services of the French left-back and midfielder, Les Rouges et Noirs will pay OM a fee in the region of €20m. Marseille were willing to sanction sales for both Merlin and Rongier this summer, as they focus on recruiting new players for Roberto De Zerbi’s roster.
The 30-year-old midfielder rejected a contract offer from Les Phocéens in February. As a result, Rongier was considered one of the players who could leave the Stade Vélodrome. On the other hand, Merlin was a regular for Marseille last term. The French defender made 27 appearances in Ligue 1 for OM last season, scoring 1 goal and registering 3 assists. He is now set to become a new Rennes player.
