Referee Marco Piccinini has won praise for getting a major penalty decision correct in yesterday’s Serie A clash between Venezia and Inter Milan.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. laud the official’s performance overall.
Inter won by a single goal in yesterday’s Serie A match away to Venezia.
Matteo Darmian’s first half strike, after a save on Lautaro Martinez’s snap shot, was enough.
But Inter had to hold firm at the back to make sure of that. For the second time this season, they’ve required a clean sheet to get the better of newly-promoted Venezia.
There was one moment in the Inter penalty area where Venezia felt that they should have had a spot kick.
this came after the ball appeared to brush the hand of midfielder Piotr Zielinski.
However, referee Piccinini waved the Lagunari’s appeals away.
As Tuttosport note, the touch occurred after an accidental deflection off of Zielinski’s foot.
Therefore, the newspaper argue, the referee was correct to not award a penalty.
Meanwhile, Tuttosport argue, all of the yellow card decisions were correct. Nor were there any instances where Piccinini didn’t give a yellow card but should have.
