Referee José Munuera, the man responsible for sending off Jude Bellingham in Real Madrid’s weekend meeting with Osasuna, will play no part in the next round of La Liga fixtures.

That’s according to Relevo, who have on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.

Munuera has of course seen his name take its place centre stage in the headlines in Spain for several days now.

This comes amid the ongoing fallout from his decision to show a straight red card to the aforementioned Jude Bellingham on Saturday.

En route to a 1-1 stalemate between Real Madrid and Osasuna, the Englishman was out of the blue given his marching orders, following an exchange with the man in charge.

The call caused quite a stir, amid mounting claims on the part of the Real fanbase that their side are being unfairly treated on a consistent basis at present.

Munuera has for his part since been heavily targeted online, with some having gone as far as to issue death threats towards the official and his family.

And for these reasons and more, the decision has been made to leave the Spaniard off duty for the next round of La Liga fixtures.

As per a report from Relevo:

‘The Appointment Committee has opted to leave Munuera Montero out. This maneuver can be seen as protection towards the figure of a referee who has been in the spotlight in recent days.’
