Saturday's regular-season match at Chase Stadium was a matchup between David Beckham's former MLS team versus his current one. The Los Angeles Galaxy took the field this weekend to play against Inter Miami. They looked nervous and played a bit tight in the first half of play as they gave up a goal from Jordi Alba.
However, the LA Galaxy did not hesitate to strike back during the second half of play. Second-year forward Joseph Paintsil found the back of the net in the 59th minute of play.
Isaiah Parente was credited with the assist, his first of the season. Both, he and Elijah Wydner took the field for the Starting XI.
With the game tied 1-1, the reigning MLS Cup champions couldn't produce anymore offense. Inter Maimi could.
With scores from Lionel Messi in the 84th minute and Luis Suarez in the 89th minute, a win was no longer an option and a draw became an after thought.
LA Galaxy goalkeeper Novak Micovic has allowed at least three goals in a game four times since Memorial Day weekend this season. The Serbian goalie allowed another in the Galaxy's third game this year.
Messi made his return to the field on Saturday after missing his last two games. He made it count as he contributed to both second half goals for Inter Miami.
The Los Angeles Galaxy could not contain Messi in the second half. Once again, the defending MLS Cup winners were outplayed and overwhelmed when it mattered most... the end of the game.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Galaxy will host Pachuca at 8:45 (PT) and 10:45 p.m. (CT). This is the first round of the Knockout Stage for the 2025 Leagues Cup.
The Galaxy advanced after winning a top-four berth during Phase One. A 4-0 win against Santos Laguna secured their spot in the next round.
After the match against Pachuca, the LA Galaxy will host the Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas on back-to-back Saturdays. At the bottom of the MLS Western Conference standings, the LA Galaxy are 16 points behind the ninth-best team, the San Jose Earthquakes.
