Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has been dealing with a shoulder problem for over a year now but has, until now, opted against undergoing surgery.

The England international has been playing with a protective cover on his shoulder but confirmed recently that he will undergo operation once the FIFA Club World Cup is over.

“It’s better now, but I’m tired of playing with the sling. I’ve lost a lot of weight because of how much I’m sweating during matches,” he confirmed after MotM display vs Pachuca.

“I’ll have surgery after the tournament. The medical staff have been amazing, but I just want to play pain-free again.”

Now, according to journalist Alberto Pereiro, Bellingham could possibly be out for the rest of 2025 once he undergoes surgery to address his shoulder problem.

If true, it will come as a huge blow for Real Madrid and their new manager Xabi Alonso, who sees the England international as one of the key cogs in his project.

An alternate report from The Athletic suggests that the time out on the sidelines for Bellingham after surgery could last for three months, meaning he would be out until October at least should he undergo the operation in July.

Both scenarios are concerning for Real Madrid as they will be at a disadvantage without one of their most important players for an extended period.

So far this season, Bellingham has featured in 54 games across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and assisting 14 more.

Alonso has plans to utilise him in a deeper role and turn him into more of an all-round midfielder than the goalscoring threat he has been used as so far at Real Madrid.

But an extended period on the sidelines would mean that the new manager would have to wait possibly until next year to implement his plans with the former Borussia Dortmund ace.
