Real Madrid megastar Vinicius Jr. is looking into the prospect of buying a second-division club in Portugal, reports journalist Gustavo Hofman of ESPN Brazil.

Vinicius, currently in Saudi Arabia preparing for Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona on Sunday, is looking to diversify his investments with an eye on his post-playing career. The idea aligns with his broader ambitions in business and social projects.

A strong commercial profile

Vinicius already boasts an impressive portfolio of personal sponsorships, including his Nike contract, which runs until 2028.

Following a recent legal dispute, the Real Madrid and Brazil winger has solidified his position as one of the brand’s leading football ambassadors.

The 24-year-old is represented by Roc Nation, maintaining connections with athletes across different sports, especially from the NBA and NFL. Additionally, he funds the Instituto Vini Jr., a social initiative based in Brazil.

Now, he is looking into the possibility of getting into football club ownership with the purchase of a second-division team in Portugal.

Portugal’s second division comprises 18 teams, including the B squads of Benfica and Porto. Notably, there is already one team with a Brazilian at the helm – Portimonense, who have Rodiney Sampaio as the President of administrative board.

Footballers as club owners

Should Vinicius complete this acquisition, he would join a growing list of footballers investing in clubs.

Former Chelsea superstar N’Golo Kante owns Royal Excelsior Virton in Belgium’s third division, while Vinicius’ Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappe became the majority shareholder of Caen in France’s Ligue 2 last year.
