Real Madrid star receives fresh best in the world shouts during Madrid Derby | OneFootball

A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Tuesday come in for a fresh round of ‘best in the world’ shouts.

The player in question? Federico Valverde.

Uruguayan international Valverde was in from the off once more this evening, as Real Madrid welcomed city rivals Atlético to the Santiago Bernabéu for a Champions League Round-of-16 clash.

The 26-year-old had spent the last couple of weeks on the sidelines with a fitness issue, but ensured that he was at the disposal of boss Carlo Ancelotti for the derby.

Valverde, in turn, was fielded at right-back, amid the ongoing absence of Dani Carvajal.

And to say that the South American has since gone on to impress would be something of an understatement.

Shining from his berth at the back, Valverde has excelled on both sides of the ball, laying on the assist for Rodrygo’s opener, before coming up with a series of vital interceptions and challenges at the other end.

And as much has not gone at all unappreciated on the part of those watching on, amid suggestions that, despite playing out of his natural position, Valverde looks every part of ‘the best right-back in the world’.
