After Real Madrid’s recent encounter agianst Lille, goalkeeper Andriy Lunin expressed his thoughts on the team’s performance, particularly highlighting the need for greater aggression and creativity in the first half.

The match ended with a disappointing 0-1 loss for the Spanish side, and Lunin recognised the team’s shortcomings during the initial 45 minutes.

Lunin acknowledged that analysing a match immediately after it concludes can be challenging, but he was clear that improvements were needed. He mentioned that while the second half showed more effort from the team, the first half left much to be desired.

“It’s difficult to analyse right after, but we lacked some aggression, creativity, fighting a bit more. In the second half, we had more desire, but in the first half, we were worse,” said Lunin as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“We always want to win. We know what colours we defend. But it’s okay. We have to keep working and prepare for the next match to continue in our line of work.

“I’m not going to analyse the first half now, but it was bad. We’ll analyse it and improve in the next game.”

Time to improve

The goalkeeper emphasised the importance of winning and representing the club’s colours, stating that despite the disappointment, the team must continue working hard and preparing for upcoming matches.

He expressed his happiness at getting the chance to play again, while also sending his best wishes to Courtois for a swift recovery. He reflected on the disappointment of not securing a victory, as the team always strives for success, regardless of who is on the field.

“Personally, I am happy to be back playing. On the other hand, I want to send encouragement to Courtois so that he can recover.

“The most important thing was to win, but we didn’t manage to do that and I can’t be happy because we always want to win and it doesn’t matter who is on the pitch,” he noted.

This game marked Lunin’s debut for the season, as he stepped in for the injured Thibaut Courtois, who suffered a muscle injury in the recent derby against Atletico Madrid.

Despite not having played any minutes this season before this match, Lunin rose to the occasion. He made significant contributions, including two crucial saves that prevented Lille from scoring in the early stages.
