Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal has this week revealed his take that arch rivals Barcelona were somewhat fortunate to be afforded a spot-kick in their most recent outing.
Barca were of course back in action this past weekend, making the trip to Spain’s capital for a La Liga meeting with Rayo Vallecano.
When all was said and done, the Blaugrana were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, in a 1-1 draw.
The visitors’ solitary goal on the evening came from the penalty spot, after Lamine Yamal was adjudged to have been fouled in the Rayo penalty area.
Despite replays having showcased the fact that the decision was soft at best, a problem with the VAR monitor meant that it could not be overturned.
As alluded to above, though, one individual who did not feel as though a spot-kick should have been awarded is Dani Carvajal.
Speaking during an interview with COPE whilst on international duty with Spain early this week, Real Madrid stopper Carvajal admitted:
“I wouldn’t have called a penalty on Lamine.”
It is also worth noting, though, that the experienced full-back followed up by adding that he also felt as though the penalty awarded against Barca at Levante on Gameweek 2 – for a handball offence by Alejandro Balde – was the wrong decision.
