Real Madrid are on the verge of closing their fourth signing of the summer transfer window, with Alvaro Carreras set to sign from SL Benfica imminently.

As confirmed earlier this week, a full agreement has been reached between the two clubs, with Los Blancos set to pay €50 million for the 22-year-old left-back in multiple instalments.

Medicals today

Building on that, Fabrizio Romano further reports that Carreras can now be considered a Real Madrid player for good as he is set to travel to the Spanish capital today.

The left-back’s medical has been scheduled to take place today after he was given permission to travel by the Portuguese outfit.

Manchester United, who had a buyback clause for Carreras, are understood to have confirmed that they will not be utilising that option either.

So, everything is set for Carreras to become the fourth signing of the summer for Real Madrid, following in the footsteps of Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Franco Mastantuono.

Personal terms were never an issue, with the defender having been keen on returning to Valdebebas five years after he had left to sign for Manchester United.

Real Madrid tried to close the signing before the start of the Club World Cup, but negotiations proved to be difficult as Benfica took a tough stance.

However, things moved swiftly over the past week with the transfer of Rafel Obrador from Real Madrid to Benfica proving to be a key step. With that operation being made official on Friday, Carreras’ deal could be completed today.
