Real Madrid were off the blocks quickly in the summer window, closing in as many as three signings in Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Franco Mastantuono.
The Merengues pushed hard to sign another player in the form of Alvaro Carreras from SL Benfica before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup.
However, Benfica stalled the left-back’s exit and ended up registering the player for the tournament in the USA, much to the chagrin of Los Blancos.
Despite the deal not going through, Real Madrid remain keen on signing Alvaro Carreras before the start of the new season.
As such, journalist Jorge Picon reports that the Spanish capital giants remain optimistic about the 22-year-old defender’s arrival in the coming weeks.

Indeed, Real Madrid are still continuing to keep tabs on Carreras at the Club World Cup and intend to make a move for him once the tournament is over next month.
The Spanish starlet, who happens to be a former La Fabrica trainee, remains the team’s top target in the left-back position and the club remain confident about his signing.
Benfica, for their part, are unlikely to make things any easier and are expected to keep insisting on Carreras’ €50 million release clause to be paid.
As for the player, he is counting his time to make the switch and return to Real Madrid, five years after having left the club’s academy to sign for Manchester United.
