With two weeks left before the summer transfer window slams shut, Real Madrid might still have some tricks left up their sleeves.
After making four headline signings, Los Blancos have been quiet in the market in recent weeks, and the general message coming out from the club is that the squad is closed and no more additions will be made.
However, the decision to hand the No. 30 shirt to Franco Mastantuono and leave a spot in the first-team squad vacant has fuelled speculation of a possible transfer before the window shuts.
As such, Defensa Central reports that Real Madrid have a clear plan if they manage to complete the sale of Rodrygo: move for the signings of Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool and Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace.
Rodrygo has attracted the interest of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City as well as Tottenham Hotspur. The potential departure of the Brazilian, valued at €100 million, would give the club’s sporting management the financial flexibility to recruit both players.
Crystal Palace’s Wharton is seen as a crucial addition to strengthen Real Madrid’s midfield. A talented player with excellent vision, the young Englishman has emerged as one of the breakout central midfielders in the Premier League.

Known for his ability to recover possession, the 21-year-old is also a more than capable passer. His signing would bring depth and balance to a midfield already featuring Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Guler, and Federico Valverde.
The second target is Liverpool defender Konate. His physical strength and international experience make him an ideal fit for Real Madrid’s defensive needs.
With ongoing concerns about the continuity and reliability of David Alaba, and the advancing age of Antonio Rudiger, the Frenchman is viewed as the long-term solution to guarantee defensive solidity.
Although Liverpool could demand up to €50 million, Real Madrid value the fact that Konate’s contract expires in 2026, which could allow them to negotiate a lower fee if Rodrygo’s sale is completed.
With three weeks remaining before the transfer window closes, all eyes are on Real Madrid’s decision regarding Rodrygo. Should the move go through, the summer could shift from quiet to decisive in a matter of days.
