Long-time members of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid are leading Euro 2024 in a key statistical category.

The pair in question? Toni Kroos, and Luka Modrić.

Both Kroos and Modrić, of course, positioned themselves front and centre in the action across the group stage at the Euros.

The former played a central role in guiding hosts Germany into the competition’s Last-16, whilst veteran Modrić was dealt heartbreak in being sent packing by way of a last-gasp Italy equaliser.

It is Kroos, though, who leads the way in the statistic alluded to above, and by quite a margin.

As revealed by Opta, the 34-year-old – who will of course bring a close to his playing days this summer – ‘has made more line-breaking passes at Euro 2024 than any other player’.

Incredibly, Kroos has broken the lines of opposing teams on 102 occasions to date.

Next on the list of midfielders comes the aforementioned Modrić, whose tally of 43, whilst impressive in itself, is less than half that of his long-time engine room partner in Madrid.
