The month of January was never going to be easy for Real Madrid, given the fixture pile-up with several important games being played.

The Spanish Super Cup debacle against Barcelona hurts, but other than that, it is safe to say that Los Blancos have fared well in general, cementing themselves as La Liga leaders, progressing in Copa del Rey, and securing a playoff position in the UEFA Champions League.

Real Madrid confident of La Liga triumph

As such, Jorge Picon reports that Real Madrid are confident about their chances of winning the La Liga title this season after their recent run of form.

In fact, the locker room celebrated the recent slip-ups of Atletico Madrid, believing that it has taken them a step closer to securing the league title.

There are still 51 points left to play for, a considerable number, and Carlo Ancelotti and his team are well aware of this. However, since the start of the season, they have felt confident that they have enough talent to win most domestic matches against their rivals.

They also anticipated that both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid would drop points, meaning they would not need to reach 90 points to achieve their goal, as Ancelotti has reiterated in press conferences on more than one occasion.

Even when Barcelona pulled nine points ahead early in the season and doubts began to surface about their own performances, there was a sense of calm within the Real Madrid locker room.

Real Madrid believe they have found the winning formula necessary to claim the league title. With Kylian Mbappe playing in a style reminiscent of Cristiano Ronaldo and a defence that has regained its reliability, they are confident of retaining the crown.

Improvement needed in Europe

However, while the Real Madrid squad is proud of their achievements in the domestic competition, they know that the level reached so far is not enough to compete effectively in the Champions League.

In Europe, they need improvements to face the elite clubs, against whom they have struggled this season.

Ancelotti is considering tactical variations for high-profile matches, some of which he has tested in recent games, such as using Federico Valverde as a full-back or adding an extra player in midfield.

Continuing their strong form in the coming months will bring them closer to the La Liga title and provide a solid foundation for facing a challenging Champions League campaign, in which Real Madrid are always considered the team to beat.
