Real Madrid legend Guti did not hold back his criticism after the Spanish capital club lost 3-0 to Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

It was a listless display from Los Blancos, especially in the second half, as Arsenal outplayed them comfortably and now have a foot through the door for the semi-finals

Following the game, Guti was full of praise for the Premier League, but was blunt in his criticism of his former team.

“Real Madrid, at no point, were in the match. As Ancelotti also said, this team always has a reaction – and this time it did not,” he said.

He pointed to the squad’s physical condition as a major factor in their lacklustre showing, saying: “Physically, you can see that they are really struggling in the second halves.”

The stars went missing

Guti singled out the team’s top players – the much-hyped ‘Fab Four’ of Vinicius Jr., Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham, for not performing on the big stage.

“The best players have to show up in the most important matches of the season. Mbappe, Vinicius, Rodrygo, and even Bellingham are players who need to step up in these games – and not one of the four did,” he said pointedly.

He also sent a clear message to these players regarding their overall commitment, stating:

“In football, you have to prove yourself. It is not just about what you do with the ball, but also without it.

“Maybe, with the ball, you score five goals and can afford not to run without it, but if you do not score five goals every game, then you have to run.”

A message for Ancelotti

Guti also directed criticism at Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, suggesting that he needs to make braver decisions when his main players are underperforming.

“Ancelotti has the big names on the pitch, but if they are not working, he has players on the bench who deserve a vote of confidence,” he remarked.

The former Real Madrid ace specifically mentioned Endrick, stating: “Endrick did well in the Copa del Rey and in the end, he did not play either.”
