Alphonso Davies has long been a top target for Real Madrid with the Canadian international being seen as the ideal upgrade in the left-back position at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The fact that his contract at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season made him an even more attractive prospect for Los Blancos, who have been working on his signing since last year.

At one point not very long ago, it appeared set in stone that Davies would leave Bayern Munich as a free agent and join Real Madrid.

But things have taken a U-turn in recent weeks as contract talks between Davies’ camp and the Bavarians have progressed significantly.

Renewal in sight

In fact, according to reports in Germany, as relayed by AS, Alphonso Davies is on the verge of renewing his contract with Bayern Munich.

A crucial meeting between the German club’s representatives and Nick Huoseh, the agent of the Canadian left-back, is scheduled for next week.

This meeting is expected to be decisive in ensuring the 24-year-old extends his stay at the Allianz Arena beyond this summer, when his current deal expires.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, confirmed ongoing discussions with Davies’ representatives and emphasised the club’s urgency to finalise the renewal before the critical stages of the season.

“It is no secret that we are in talks with the agents of players whose contracts are nearing expiration,” Eberl stated.

“We have a match on Saturday, so I can rule out anything happening this week. What we all agree on is that we do not want to enter the crucial phase of the season with these matters unresolved,” he added.

“Everyone is interested in having a successful second half of the season. We are working to satisfy all parties.”

With this development, the saga surrounding Davies’ future appears to be nearing its conclusion, and a move to Real Madrid seems increasingly unlikely. The Canadian star’s commitment to Bayern Munich is expected to be formalised soon.
