Real Madrid are keeping a close watch on their former defender, Mario Gila, as per an update from journalist Rodry (h/t RM4 Arab).
It must be noted that while the Spanish club ultimately decided against signing him during their recent defensive injury crisis, they have continued to monitor his progress.
In the summer of 2022, Real Madrid sold the Spanish centre-back to Lazio for €6 million. However, they ensured that they retained 50% of any future transfer fee, along with certain clauses that could facilitate his return if necessary.
That being said, bringing him back will not be an easy task, as several factors would have to align for such a move to happen.
To begin with, Madrid’s management has already made contact with Gila, letting him know that they are following his progress and recognising his impressive development since leaving the club.

Interestingly, since moving from Madrid to Lazio, his market value has surged dramatically, rising from just €500,000 to €28 million, a testament to how well he has adapted to Italian football.
However, his performances have not gone unnoticed, and he is now being tracked by some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Both Inter Milan and Juventus have been carefully assessing him throughout the season, keeping tabs on his performances as they consider making a formal move.
Additionally, several Premier League sides have expressed interest, initiating discussions to understand his contractual situation and potential transfer terms.
With his current deal at Lazio running until 2027, his future remains uncertain, but a transfer in the near future cannot be ruled out.
For now, Real Madrid continue to follow his progress from a distance, keeping their options open. Whether they will take concrete steps to bring him back remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that Gila’s rapid rise has made him a player worth watching.
