Former Real Madrid star Claude Makélélé has this week moved to reveal his appreciation for the talents of a member of the midfield ranks at Barcelona.

The player in question? Pedri.

Spanish international Pedri is for his part of course fresh off nothing short of a spectacular individual campaign.

Whilst attackers the likes of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal so often stole the headlines across Spain, Barcelona’s engine room star stood out as arguably the Blaugrana’s most consistent performer.

As alluded to above, though, one individual on whom such excellence was not at all overlooked is Claude Makélélé.

Speaking during a brief interview with Bet365 late this week, midfield icon Makélélé was asked to choose between a number of the standout performers from this season’s Champions League campaign.

In the end, the call for the tournament’s best player came down to two Barcelona stars: Lamine Yamal, and Pedri.

And Makélélé, an expert on what is required to dominate the middle of the park, did not hesitate in opting for the latter:
