Real Madrid’s star forward Kylian Mbappe has made history by becoming the youngest owner of a football club after his successful attempt to purchase Caen, a Ligue 2 club in France, was officially been confirmed, marking a significant milestone in his career.

While Caen first announced the arrival of the Real Madrid striker as a shareholder back in July, the deal was pending approval from the DNCG, the financial body responsible for overseeing French football. This approval finally came through on Wednesday, making the acquisition complete.

According to reports from AS, through his investment firm, Interconnected Ventures, the player now holds 80% of the shares in Caen, with the remaining 20% still under the ownership of Pierre-Antoine Capton, the club’s former proprietor.

This move sees the Real Madrid forward follow in the footsteps of other high-profile footballers, such as N’Golo Kante, who also made investments in clubs.

Kante, who was a teammate of the forward during France’s victorious 2018 World Cup campaign, owns Royal Excelsior Virton in Belgium.

A life beyond football?

This acquisition marks the player’s first foray into football club ownership, adding another dimension to his career.

The National Directorate for Control and Management (DNCG) has confirmed that no restrictions or measures were placed on Caen following the change in ownership, ensuring the club’s operations will continue without interference.

Interestingly, the player’s connection to Caen runs deep, having been linked to the Normandy club since 2012, when he was only 13 years old and almost signed for them before his move to Real Madrid.

On the player’s professional side, he has recently been sidelined by an injury he picked up against Alaves. Unfortunately, this will keep him out of action for three weeks, meaning he will miss the highly anticipated Madrid derby, a match he was eager to participate in.
