According to a report shared by MARCA, Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger is a major doubt for the upcoming Chmapions League clash against Arsenal due to concerns that he could face suspension by UEFA.

The German centre-back is among a group of Real Madrid players who are currently under investigation by UEFA following their celebrations at the Metropolitano Stadium after eliminating Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16.

Those under scrutiny include Rudiger, Dani Ceballos, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius Jr., all of whom are being closely examined by UEFA’s disciplinary team to determine whether their actions during the celebration warrant disciplinary action.

The investigation was launched after Atletico Madrid lodged complaints regarding the behaviour of Real Madrid players, especially highlighting the events that transpired following their victory.

UEFA’s decision to initiate a case against the Real Madrid players stems from the allegations presented by Atletico, which pointed out their post-match conduct as questionable.

Rudiger could face lengthy sanction

According to the outlet, the cases of Mbappe, Vinicius, and Ceballos appear to be relatively straightforward, with the outlet suggesting that the trio will likely face fines.

Additionally, if UEFA follows similar precedents from recent months, they could also receive a one-match suspension.

However, such suspensions would typically be deferred, meaning that the ban would only be enforced if similar misconduct is repeated within a specific timeframe, usually around a year.

Rudiger’s situation, however, seems more complicated. Unlike the other three players, the German defender’s gesture during the celebration was reportedly perceived as threatening, making his case less clear-cut.

While it is possible that UEFA may ultimately issue a fine and a deferred suspension for Rudiger as well, the ambiguity surrounding the investigation leaves his availability against Arsenal in serious doubt.

An official decision from UEFA has yet to be made, and Real Madrid are anxiously awaiting the outcome as they prepare for the crucial fixture against Arsenal.

The defender’s potential absence could pose a significant setback for the club, particularly given his defensive prowess and experience on the big stage.
