Nacho Fernandez’s departure from Real Madrid opens up a slot in Los Blancos’ defensive unit. It will, however, not be young Rafa Marin who will take over the newly created vacancy.

The youngster has largely been touted as one for the first-team over the years. Last season, he moved out on loan to Deportivo Alaves and participated in 33 games for the team in the first division.

Despite his performances, the management doesn’t seem convinced enough to offer him a regular place in defence. An exit, thus, is imminent and AS provide an update on the same.

Moving to Naples

Napoli have had eyes on Marin for a long time now and negotiations between the Serie A side and Real Madrid have been ongoing in recent weeks.

According to reports, the Italian side are set to shell out up to €12 million for the centre-back, although his move this time will be on a permanent transfer.

According to the latest update from the Spanish outlet, Marin’s move to Napoli is all but complete. The player will travel on Monday to complete the formalities and be presented as a new Napoli player, kick-starting a new chapter in his career.

Real Madrid’s defensive target

Real Madrid letting young Marin move out of the club only solidifies the idea that they will bring in a new name this summer. As it stands, Leny Yoro is the prime contender.

The Lille defender has refused to accept any offer apart from Real Madrid’s, and with his contract expiring next summer, the pressure is on the French side to cede to his demands.

As revealed earlier today, the Merengues are now confident of signing Yoro despite the gap in valuation and they see a good possibility that Lille give into their offer of €40 million.

The resolution of this transfer saga is expected to unfold in the coming weeks.
