In what comes as a blow for Real Madrid, their request to postpone the opening game of the 2025/26 La Liga season against Osasuna has once again been rejected, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Los Blancos had already faced rejection on their request from the Sole Judge of the RFEF Competitions Committee earlier this month.

Now, the RFEF’s Second Instance Committee has also officially rejected Real Madrid’s appeal to postpone the season-opener.

Real Madrid are scheduled to play Osasuna on Tuesday, August 19, in the first matchweek of the 2025/26 season in two weeks.

Real Madrid had requested the postponement on the basis that, following the mandatory 21-day holiday period after participating in the FIFA Club World Cup, the squad would not have the minimum of three weeks of pre-season preparation time recommended for teams.

However, their request was not approved by the Sole Judge of the Competitions Committee, even though Osasuna were open to the game being moved.

Now, the Second Instance Committee has upheld the original ruling, maintaining that there is no need for the fixture to be moved.

Following the latest development, Real Madrid now have only one remaining legal avenue: to appeal to the Spanish Sports Administrative Court (TAD).

However, the possibility of the game being postponed appears to be very slim. Real Madrid returned to pre-season training on Monday, August 4, meaning they will have only two weeks to prepare for the new campaign.

Given the lack of time, the Merengues are going to play only one pre-season friendly – against WSG Tirol in Austria on August 12.
