Having already lost Chadi Riad and Sokratis ahead of the summer transfer window opening, it is essential for Real Betis to recruit at least two centre-backs ahead of next season. A deal for Internacional defender Vitao is currently being worked on, while moves have been made for another target.
That is Diego Llorente, whose future as Leeds United is currently up in the air. The Spaniard will not continue in England, and according to Relevo, he is tempted by a return to La Liga with Betis, who are offering a permanent deal, which would surely be the preference for Leeds, on the back of their failed promotion to the Premier League.
However, it’s not so straightforward, as Roma – whom Llorente was with last season – want to tie the 30-year-old down to another loan deal. The player himself is open to either possibility, although a move to Real Betis would give him a better opportunity to stake his claim for a place in the Spanish national team.
If Llorente were to join Real Betis, he’d be the second Leeds player to do so this summer, with Marc Roca close to signing on a permanent basis, following his successful loan spell last season. A deal worth €4.5m has been agreed between the two clubs.
