Real Betis eye Serie A star as Johnny Cardoso replacement | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga outfit Real Betis have set their sights on a member of the midfield ranks at Italian side Genoa, amid their ongoing search for a replacement for Johnny Cardoso.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Morten Frendrup as the player in question.

The name of midfielder Cardoso has of course proven an altogether prominent one in the Spanish media headlines across the day to date.

This comes after confirmation was forthcoming that the United States international is all set for a summer move to Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid.

As much is set to leave a sizable hole in the engine room setup at Betis, with Cardoso having played a leading role for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this past season.

A search for the 23-year-old’s successor, in turn, has already been kicked into gear.

And as alluded to above, one name has already emerged as a potential frontrunner amongst those in the boardroom at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.

As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano:

‘Understand Real Betis have included Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup in the 4-players shortlist to replace Johnny Cardoso. Not an easy deal with important price and many clubs keen as Genoa hope to keep Frendrup.’
