Rasmus Hojlund is one player attracting serious attention amid the latest developments at Manchester United.
With Benjamin Sesko’s arrival, Hojlund, who has enjoyed a decent pre-season, now finds himself in a tricky position.
The Slovenian hitman should take over as Ruben Amorim’s first-choice striker, and reports suggest United are now open to moving on Hojlund.
Fortunately for the Denmark international, he already has a potential landing spot lined up in AC Milan.
According to a report relayed by The Peoples Person, Milan are actively working on a deal for the 22-year-old.
United are demanding a £6 million loan fee, plus a £35 million option to buy.
Milan, as per the report, were comfortable with the loan fee but were yet to agree on terms for the buy option.
While a move to San Siro looks increasingly likely, two key hurdles remained: convincing Hojlund to leave Old Trafford and finalising the terms of the option to buy.
Hojlund, who has expressed a desire to stay at United, still needs persuading.
If he greenlights the move, Milan will then need to agree on the buy clause.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Milan are now willing to accept United’s loan plus buy option demand.
“United have opened the door to a paid loan with an option to buy, and discussions are underway to set the financial terms,” reveals the Italian outlet.
“Talks are ongoing and could soon lead to a breakthrough, with a loan fee of €5-6 million and an option to buy for €35-40 million.”
With the buy clause no longer a stumbling block, attention now turns to Hojlund himself.
Regarding United’s number nine, Corriere dello Sport suggest there is hope he can be persuaded, with Milan doing everything they can to secure his approval.
“Hojlund has yet to decide on a return to Italy, but there’s room to persuade him, and his agent is actively working on that front.
“To help convince him, Milan are working on a buy clause that could become mandatory if certain performance conditions, such as goals and appearances, are met. It’s a way to incentivise Hojlund to arrive in Milan with determination and ambition.”
If Milan are willing to meet INEOS’ demands, this is a move the former Atalanta star should seriously consider.
He was a hit in Serie A before United snapped him up, and with the Premier League proving a tough nut to crack, a return to familiar ground could be wise.
Given the hefty fee United paid to bring Sesko to Old Trafford, the Slovenian should be starting every week.
With no European football and fewer games to play, Hojlund should not need much convincing that if he wants regular game time, leaving United is the only realistic option.
Amorim leaving him out against Fiorentina was a clear sign of the challenge that lies ahead for him in Manchester.
That said, with Milan determined to close the deal, hopefully, the deal goes through, and he goes and tears up the Italian league.
