Werder Bremen’s new head coach Horst Steffen has gained reinforcement within his coaching staff as Raphael Duarte, with whom he worked together in Elversberg, joins the Green-Whites as assistant coach. Managing director of football Clemens Fritz announced the appointment on Thursday.
“Raphael was Horst Steffen’s first-choice candidate. They worked very well together at Elversberg, and we are delighted that we have now been able to reach an agreement with the club. Raphael is a young, innovative coach who serves as a very good addition for Horst and someone who has already gained a lot of experience at a high level for his age,” explained Clemens Fritz.
Raphael Duarte is looking forward to his time in Bremen: “I’m really excited about taking on this role at such a wonderful club and continuing to work with Horst, as well as getting to know the Werder team and staff.”
The 29-year-old from Luxembourg had formed part of Horst Steffen’s coaching staff at SV Elversberg since February 2022. After a spell in a head coach position in his home country, Duarte, who holds a UEFA A licence, worked as assistant coach at AS Nancy in France before joining SVE.
